Tanuj Virwani as the ego driven prick who's really not the hero of this story isn't all that bad either. And Sunny does a respectable job on both counts. She starts off as a regular seductive lady but her U-turn to a perfect Indian housewife and mother in Pune adds a whole new shade to the character. Sunny does a decent job with her performance. But that train of thought is also not relevant here, because ONS is not at all about cheap thrills. So that doesn't do any favours to this film.

She's been an adult movie star and her choices up until One Night Stand have been inclined towards titillating material. Sunny Leone brings in a certain perception for any film. And their words are measured and sensible. The girls have the final say in this movie. Also nice is the fact that the film touches upon a sensitive subject like marital rape and then doesn't bring in any moral judgement or cop outs. The strength of One Night Stand is Niranjan Iyengar's dialogue which surprisingly is leagues better than the narrative. The resulting thrills are nicely done and the climax of the story does serve up a decent feminist stance on casual flings and adultery.
But things pick up the moment the action turns to Pune and when Urvil's character becomes a certified idiot with stalker syndrome. At this juncture, the movie seems a little too dodgy. So when he runs into the divinely sexy and bohemian Celina (Sunny Leone) they have the ultimate male fantasy fling replete with beaches, bath tubs, laced lingerie and stunning swimming pools. He just wants to get laid on foreign trips, far from the sweet love of his unsuspecting wife Simran (Nyra Banerjee). Urvil (Tanuj Virwani) doesn't have passions as unique as his name. As it turns out both the guy and girl are married. So when the guy and girl accidentally stumble upon each other, shit hits the fan. But what was supposed to be a no strings attached fling, gets complicated when the two individuals turn out to be from the same city, Pune.
As the name would suggest, things kick off with random strangers having a one night stand in the exotic locales of Phuket. But what sets it apart from the crowd is the maturity of its themes and its progressive stand. The screenplay replete with an item number, romantic getaway locations, sex and blackmail has all thel trappings of a stereotypical thriller. One Night Stand is unabashedly formula driven. This is as good an effort as it gets to capture reality in a commercial and entertaining movie. And best of all, it doesn't make a meal out of it's subject or story. But truth be told, this thrilling movie about relationships is surprisingly progressive in its themes. It's somewhat dicey title does allude to run-of-the-mill risque that a Ragini MMS 2 or Mastizaade would serve up. But Sunny Leone's latest film is a farcry from the usual sex drivel that comes out of B-town.
A movie called One Night Stand, would usually sound like an excuse to indluge in cheap thrills and erotica.
