On the land was patented to John Reed. He is listed on the tax list on Jin Washington Co, PA. He paid 11 cents per acre for this tract. On he received a warrant for 400 acres in Cecil Twp., Washington Co, PA. In 1773 he was listed on the tax rolls of Rosstraver Twp., Bedford Co, PA. He first settled in Bald Eagle Twp., Centre Co. This however, is incongruent with the birth records from East Prussia (Russia today). Tradition says he came from the Palatinate.

William Saltsman came to America from the Palatinate in Germany, arriving in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the ship Edinburgh with James Russell as Master, On September 16, 1751.
